Michael Voltaggio’s Ink Sack

You may know him as the edgier Voltaggio brother and winner of Top Chef Season 6. Now you’ll know him as the guy who makes a damn good sandwich in Los Angeles.

Michael opened Ink Sack today, a sandwich shop on Melrose just doors down from his soon to be open full-service restaurant, Ink. Of course I was lined up outside the door minutes before opening so Urbandig could give you the inside scoop.

Ink Sack’s menu is pretty straightforward. They offer several gourmet sandwiches, at dirt cheap prices, as well as housemade potato chips, and fresh-baked cookies. I smelled a tray of peanut butter cookies fresh out of the oven…mmm.

I ordered the Cold Fried Chicken sandwich, with house made ranch, cheese, and spices; the Bahn Mi with pork cheek, chicharrones, and pickled vegetables; and finally the C.L.T. - that’s chicken liver mousse, curried chicken skin, lettuce and tomato.

The C.L.T.

Oh man, that liver mousse is delish, and those chicharrones and pork cheek make up the best bahn mi I’ve had in awhile.

While you’re waiting for your food, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. You can draw on the walls with chalk!
