Urbandig.com Delivers Curated City Experiences to your iPhone
New app gives users access to local guides in Los Angeles and San Francisco
Los Angeles CA, August 17, 2011 – Urbandig.com, the source for handcrafted ‘off the beaten path’ city experiences, announced today that a beta version of their mobile app is now available for free download from the App Store. Launching in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Urbandig app delivers unique experiences like Craft Beer crawls, Street Art Walks, and Locavore tours directly to one’s iPhone providing the route for self discovery with friends or at one’s leisure. “Urbandig takes you off the beaten path so you can experience a city like a true local,” said Mike Macadaan, Co-Founder of Urbandig. “Because our guides are crafted by subject matter experts, who live and breathe adventure, Urbandig is able to serve up trusted yet unconventional (or one-of-a-kind) experiences that you just won’t find in any guide book or on a double decker tour bus.”
Content is not crowd sourced. All Urbandig curators are domain experts, who meticulously research and select the most interesting and exceptional places to include in their guides. For instance, as a food and drink correspondent for the SF Bay Guardian, Guest Editor for Eater and Grubstreet, and contributing writer for NBC’s The Feast, curator Virginia Miller from thePerfectSpotSF.com took time to select her favorite bars to feature in the North Beach Bar Crawl. In addition, Assistant Music Editor for LA Weekly, Rebecca Haithcoat dug deep to uncover and craft the Best Live Music Venues experience in LA, and Bobby Solomon of the popular design blog, thefoxisblack.com hunted down the best places to catch a movie in Los Angeles.
How it Works: After downloading the app to their iPhone, users choose their location to find guides of interest to them such as LA dive bars or Best Food Trucks in SF. Guides can range from ½ day to multi-day experiences and contain insider tips, beautiful photos, and recommendations of what to do, eat, or drink at each stop along the way. The Urbandig Feed lets users see what guides their friends have tried and their friends’ favorite spots. As a user travels to new locations, the app will notify the user of cool guides in different areas.
Funded by Super Angel, Mike Edwards, the Urbandig team is comprised of an all-star group of Founders and Advisors including Mike Macadaan, Maura Rodgers, Steve McKenzie, Danielle Lehman and Saul Colt. The team plans to offer more Urban experiences in 30+ cities in 2012.
“When I fund companies, I always look at the team first,” said Mike Edwards, Managing Director at Initio Group. “I am impressed by what they have accomplished in such a short amount of time and am humbled by the talent of the curators we’ve been able to bring on board.”
